Foundation Pour

It was beautiful this morning, but cold, 31F at 6 AM. The Cement trucks were expected around 10 AM and the crew kept busy touching up the forms and setting boxes for the post footings. The pump truck arrived first & got set up for the day. Logan was here early with 2 truckloads of crushed rock for my basement but they weren't willing to bring it down the hill as far as my flatwork contractor had requested. Logan laid down some rock first, hoping that would prevent the big truck getting stuck. Eventually all four loads were in place for the flatwork crew to spread on Monday.

We received word that the cement trucks were running late so everyone took a break. The trucks showed up and the pour went smoothly until the very end when we got a bulge on the back corner of the garage. Ron quickly wedged a 2x12 plank against it & had his helper "walk the plank" to the top. This forced the form back where it belonged. John had calculated 32 to 33 yards would be required and we ended up ordering 5 yards in the fourth truck. When the last form was filled, we had used almost all of the 35 yards. We dumped the rest in the low corner of the garage.

The foundation wall forms are finished, all the rebar & hold downs are in place and we are set to pour concrete tomorrow. Friday the guys will strip the forms off and Monday or Tuesday we should have the basement floor done. Jon, Ron & Bert will be working on the posts & beams while the basement floor is being poured by the flatwork crew.

The crew is still working on foundation wall forms. John hopes to get an inspection today & would be ready to pour on Friday but doesn't want to let it sit over the weekend so will pour the walls on Monday. The floor of our daylight basement will then be poured next week.

More Foundation

The guys made good progress on the foundation today. Lynna decided to have a 24" to 25" step up from the garage floor to the house floor in order to avoid having such a steep entrance drive.

Today the crew set up forms for the foundation walls and Logan made a driveway. The guys parked their trailer load of plywood on the fresh rock & were able to get out of the gooey mud a bit. I showed Lynna how the "no step" garage to house entry would look and she doesn't like the driveway slope so we'll have to see what can be done.
