Back Fill

Friday we had Logan out to back fill the Electric and Water/Sewer trenches. We also had him fill the big ditch at the South East corner with drain rock. This trench was over 9 feet deep by the retaining wall of our daylight basement. Our master bedroom French doors open above it and the small bathroom outside entrance is adjacent, we are glad to see it filled. This part of the worksite is much safer now.

More Garage & North Entry

Garage Floor & North Entry Details

Friday & Saturday I worked on emptying out the garage & getting things ready for the cement pour I had scheduled for Monday. Bud Ransom & Pedro were here at 6:30 AM to begin setting up. The truck was due at 8:00 AM. The pour went well except for the middle where the inexperienced driver let to much cement down the chute. There was a big pile right in the center of our garage. Bud was not happy! He & Pedro had to rake most of the cement over to the far side to get things evened out. This was hard work & they aren't getting any younger. These guys are craftsmen & gave us a good looking floor with two expansion joints.

John, Ron & Bert walked up the hill at 7 AM & discussed the framing that remained. They headed out to Freres Lumber for supplies & were hard at work before 8 AM. I was busy taking pictures of the cement work and didn't take any shots of the framing work until today. John & Ron will be back on Saturday to finish up the arch above our entry and the arch over the other window.

Inspections

We had the electrical and plumbing inspections today. Everything was OK, except the plumber hadn't put the "Dwelling Label" on the back of my permit card so there was nothing for the inspector to sign. He said just have the plumber add it when he comes back & someone will sign off when they do the framing inspection. Now we can get on with back filling the trenches and start the insulation.

Sky Light

We put a Velux Solar Tube Sky Light in the roof over the small bathroom and on the few sunny days we have had, we can see it lets in a lot of light, even without the reflective tubing. The plumbers have us hooked up to our city sewer stubout so soon we can fill in all these trenches.

Electrical & Plumbing Top Out

Thursday the electricians began to wire the house while John & Bert finished up all of the remaining blocking and hold downs. Friday the electricians worked all day and the boys from BC Plumbing finished up the plumbing rough-in. John and Bert removed the staging and John paid his son and a group of neighborhood boys to pick up all the loose wood scraps from the footing trenches and from around the house.

I hired Eric, from Stayton Heating to install the vent for my boiler. He bid all the vents including the two gas heaters, the kitchen cooktop vent, the dryer vent and the gas supply manifold line. Lynna likes the job he did in her laundry room.

I called late Friday and scheduled plumbing & electrical inspections for Tuesday as the plumbers are done and the electricians say they will finish up Monday. The house was in a mess with deep sawdust piles in the entry, dining room and kitchen. There were scraps of wiring everywhere along with a few pieces of ABS plumbing pipe. I worked Saturday & Sunday to clean dup most of the loose stuff. It filled two trash cans. At least now I can run the shop vac when the electricians finish their work Monday, probably will be another mess by the end of the day.

Dining & Entry Tray Ceilings

Tuesday John got help from his old partner and they finished up the tray ceilings. Today John did the other interior framing bits that remained and plans on doing the front arches and columns on May 9 with Ron. Bert has been nailing hurricane ties on all week. I lent him my palm nailer to use in tight places & he really likes it. Lynna & I did some clean up as the electricians are coming tomorrow.
