Monday the crew erected the posts & glu-lam beams that hold up the covered porch and then set the rest of the bonus room trusses. They added more bracing to everything and were ready for today when the 2nd part of the truss package arrived. This morning John, Ron & Bert set the trusses above the entry and I got Logan to spread another truckload of gravel up by the travel trailer so the crane truck could park and unload onto the back of the house. Everything went well but there were two problems: the crane operator damaged one of the trusses when he missed removing one of the metal straps that was holding the bundle to the rest of the package. As soon as he lifted, there was a loud crack/splintering sound. The upper chord was broken about 10 feet up, along with about 8" on the tail and a 3 foot crack down the middle up where the chain was attached. The truss company has a fellow we can call out to repair everything but Ron says he can easily do the repair himself. Ron also noticed the 4 trusses that go over the kitchen and dining nook are designed to give a 12 foot ceiling instead of the 10 foot called for in the plans. I told them to just go ahead & set everything as we received it. Then we will see how much framing time and material is required to put the ceiling back to 10 feet and I will get some credit back. The truss package was already at a much better price($10,369 vs $18,267) than my quote from Kingston Lumber, so I won't make to big a fuss over this. We also used the crane to lift one of the Shower/tub combos & the small shower into place. John says his crew can move the jetted tub into the master bath and also handle the other tub/shower that goes in the bonus room.

Part of our truss package was delivered yesterday(Friday). Ron's little boy, Raymond, came to watch the crane and to see dad at work. The crew got all the trusses placed on the walls and secured. They were able to set 5 of the individual attic trusses in place on the garage walls. The crew had spent Thursday bracing all the walls for the trusses. There are so many braces in place that it is hard to walk around inside the house!

Yesterday the crew got most of the interior framing done. Lynna & I walked around after they quit for the day and it was nice for Lynna to see the actual rooms and features of our new home. It was cold at 7:00 this morning, there was a heavy layer of frost on everything.

This morning John & Ron were snapping lines to locate all the interior walls and Bert got started laying out the framing for the end wall of the garage. Corey worked at putting the OSB sheathing on the basement. The Rep from BJ's Truss came out to take final measurements and found a couple of problem areas: There is a 12 foot alcove over the tub in the master bathroom that was overlooked and he has a problem with the area where the stairway goes up to a bonus room above the garage. One of the walls is engineered for load bearing with tie downs and he has to locate 2 drag trusses so they transfer load onto that wall but there are height differences that interfere. He was to call us if he needed any changes and we received no call, so hopefully he solved the problem. John & Bert were going to Eugene in the afternoon.

Still framing up walls. The crew made good progress while Lynna & I were spending time with various kitchen designers and working with Peaches on her obedience training. Lynna didn't like how the large window in the family room looked. It was designed to be very low, only 12" up from the floor to the sill. That created problems with furniture placement and required expensive tempered glass. John & Ron Quickly reframed the opening to a size she liked and the Tempered glass won't be required.
